Newly natural or natural for a minute but still can't catch on to all the lingo...Here are a few of the most popular natural terms.
APL: Arm pit length
ASL: Ammonium lauryl sulfate, a common ingredient in shampoo
ACV: Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse, Washing hair with vinegar to cleanse, condition, and remove bacteria.
BAA: Big a** afro, large afro hairstyle; sometimes curly, round, or both.
Baggy method: Applying conditioner to the hair then wrapping it with saran wrap or covering it with a plastic/shower cap for an extended period of time
BC: Big chop, when women cut off chemically processed or heat damaged ends to attain a fresh head of natural hair
BSL: Bra-strap length
Creamy Crack: A term referring to chemical relaxer
CL: Chin length
Clarifying: Washing the hair to remove dirt, product build up or anything else that is on the follicle
Co-wash: Conditioner wash; washing hair with conditioner instead of shampoo
DC: Deep condition/Deep conditioner
Dry comb: Coming the hair while it is dry (not recommended for a SCD.)
EVCO: Extra virgin coconut oil
EVOO: Extra virgin olive oil
Leave-in: leave in conditioner; conditioner that stays in your hair throughout the day/is not rinsed out after application
MBL: Mid back length
No-poo: Haircare regimens that don’t include the use of sulfate shampoo
PJ/Product Junkie: A person who consistently purchases product after product to try on their hair. addicted to buying new hair products
Poo: Shampoo
SCD: Super Curly Diva*
SL: shoulder length
Slip: Refers to the slipperiness of hair prior to detangling, which makes the process easier.
SLS: Sodium lauryl sulfate, a common ingredient in shampoo (BAD!!!)
TWA: Teenie, weenie afro
Transitioning: Allowing the natural hair to grow while maintaining the chemically processed ends, to avoid a BC
